Richmond, Virginia

Description

Added by Elyse Clark

This is a large ~100 acre estate open to the public near downtown Richmond with beautiful gardens, the Maymont Mansion, and a nature center.

There are two entrances to Maymont: the Nature Center Parking area and the Estate Parking Lot.  The Estate parking lot is closest to all of the gardens, so if you want a longer walk around the estate, park at the Nature Center.

From the Estate parking lot, enter through the gate and the entrance to the Italian Gardens will break off shortly to your left. This garden has numerous water features and a long trellis/archway. From the large fountain in the middle of the Italian Garden, take the stairs down to walk to the Japanese Garden. This garden houses numerous bridges, stepping stones, and a large (man-made) waterfall.

To make a big loop, continue past the Japanese Garden towards the wildlife viewing area (bear, eagles, bobcat, etc.) and the Nature Center. When you return to the Estate lot from the Nature Center you'll pass by the Mansion house as well as the carriage house and a barn.

This park is free to the public, but a $5 donation is suggested. You can tour the Mansion house for $5/person (suggested) or go in the Nature Center for $4/person. Pets are not allowed at this park.  For a map of the park click here: Maymont Map

Take a Stroll around Maymont Park Reviews

Enjoy the peaceful and open space at Maymont. Be sure to explore the gardens. This is the perfect spot for throwing a frisbee or having a picnic.

Great history, great repeatability. Maymont puts on numerous awesome events throughout the year. One of the top places to visit in Richmond.

Maymont is a great spot to take the whole family. The guardians are beautiful and they also have some live animals, which are my kids favorite part.
