This is a great trout river on the outskirts of Shenandoah National Park where you can find native brook trout and stocked rainbow trout.
There are two sections that you can fish on the Robinson River. The first section is about 15 minutes away from the trailhead of White Oak Canyon. The river is on the right side of the road and you can see where it has bee stocked from the white diamonds on the trees on the side of the road. This section starts at the coordinates 38.464917, -78.313576. Follow these coordinates north until you reach the boundary of Rose River Farm (marked with very distinct, white, "No Trespassing" signs). This section of the river has native brook trout and stocked rainbow trout. This section of the river is also relatively shallow with pockets of deep pools where you can fish; rather than fishing the whole river, hike up and identify pools that you can fish by looking for darker green/blue water. I wouldn't recommend fishing this lower section in July/August/early September.
The second section is the part of the Robinson River that flows beside the White Oak Canyon Trail hike. For this section follow the directions to the trailhead on this adventure. You can start fishing right at the parking lot or begin hiking a couple hundred feet, turn RIGHT at the footbridge and cross it and work your way up the river from there. The trail will follow the river for a majority of the time up the mountain so you can hike at your own pleasure and find different spots to hike. The upper section only has native brook trout. You can hike the entire White Oak Canyon Trail up to the top and come back down, if you do this you will be covering a little over 6 miles.
* Please note the upper section of the river near White Oak Canyon is very crowded with hikers and sometimes their dogs run into the river. I recommend hiking up and finding a spot away from the main trail.
* On the lower section, be sure you don't trespass onto the Rose River Farm's property or any other property posted with No Trespassing.
* You can also combine this adventure with hiking White Oak Canyon (the Robinson River is the river that flows over White Oak Canyon).
