Description

Added by Jess Fischer

This beautiful, super secluded 9-mile loop will having you hiking through mountain meadows, along ridge lines, past little ponds and more.

There are two parking spots for this trail. Park at the lower lot if the gate is closed, if the gate is open, continue up the road for another mile until you reach another closed gate. Park here. If the gate is closed you will need to hike a mile up the road to get to the trail head.

From the second parking area start on the yellow blazed trail for two miles. During this time you will pass through two clearings/mountain meadows. Right after you pass a small pond on your left you will come to a junction of the North Mountain Trail and a forestry road. Continue on the orange blazed North Mountain Trail for a little under a mile. At this point keep your eyes peeled for a white blazed trail that will lead you to an outlook. Go back to the trail and hike about a mile and a half until you come to the junction of the purple blazed Stack Rocks Trail (during this point of your hike you will cross through a high mountain meadow). At the intersection, turn left downhill. This is a steep portion of the trail and if hiking during the fall take your time! Follow the downhill trail for about 1.3 miles before arrive at a junction with the blue blazed FDR252 road. Turn left on the blue blazed trail and follow it for about a mile. You will arrive back to the upper parking lot. If you had to hike up the hill to the upper parking lot, continue down the hill to the lower parking area.

If you start at the upper parking lot the hike is 6.6 miles

If you start at the lower parking lot the hike is 8.8 miles

*NOTE: This hike is VERY secluded. Please make sure if you are hiking alone that you have an appropriate first aid kit and tell someone where you will be. There is also no cell phone service. If possible, do this hike with someone else so you are not alone.
