While not the premier climbing venue like the New River Gorge, Goshen is still a fun place to climb due to its convenience to Lexington and Roanoke, ease of access, and being family friendly.

Goshen Pass is a beautiful area for kayaking and fishing in Bath County, Virginia near Lexington. But not as well known is the fact that there are a few places that are great for rock climbing. You'll want to park at the swinging bridge which is two miles past the picnic area on route 39 once you get into the heart of the pass. The pin on the map will take you right there.

The climbing consists of mostly top rope with easy access to the top to set up your anchors.  The approach is fairly short at a quarter mile, you'll cross the swinging bridge, and turn right to follow the trail along the river, and the first wall you'll come to is the Maury River wall. Chambers Ridge Wall and Castle Rock Wall are further down the trail. There are several fun climbs that range from 5.2 to 5.10. It's also a great place to take kids who are learning to climb due to easy top rope set ups and the variety of climbs available.

Washington & Lee University in nearby Lexington maintains a webpage dedicated to this climbing area with route information, and can be found here.

Rock Climb at Goshen Pass Reviews

I visited Goshen Pass before this adventure was added to the Outbound and it took over an hour to find because there were no decent directions on the internet. Once we did find our bearings, we loved the place! Everything from the drive to the bridge to the rocks made the experience epic! It's an easy walk to the top of the rocks and there are plenty of trees to tie off a top rope. The routes are a great combination of fun and technique. This would be a great place to take a beginner.
