Description

Wake up in this campground perched 200 feet above the entrance to the Columbia River's mouth. Explore over 1,700 acres and 27 miles of coastline in this state park. This is a year-round campground.
Don't let the name fool you, this over 1,700 acre state park offers plenty for the outdoor enthusiast. The cape was named by explorer John Meares after a failed attempt to enter the Columbia River. Lucky for you, maps have been upgraded and the river mouth and cape are no long as challenging to come across.
If you're lucky enough to choose whichever campsite you want, look for either 104 or 105 as they have easy access to the beach. If you're not looking to book too far in advance, don't worry, there are over 200 well-spaced campsites available. Regardless of how close your spot is to the coast, think about bringing a fishing pole or maybe catch a few clams to add to the dinner feast. If fishing isn't your thing, take advantage of the multitude of trails right near the campground which explore the coastline and the remainder of the state park.
Be sure to take in both the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse to the southeast and the North Head Lighthouse to the north of the campgrounds. Both are easily accessible from roads and trails heading out the campground. Something to keep in mind, the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse is the oldest working lighthouse on the west coast. With that said, break out the good camera or fire up instagram and be sure to capture the memories.
If you're headed to the park with the family and need a little more coordination, cabins and yurts are available to rent. During the summer, be sure to reserve early before they're taken. You can also take the kids to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center for an educational lay of the land.

Perfect weekend get away from Portland. Super relaxing walk on the beach when it is nice and sunny out. There are also a lot of great hikes away from the beach that should be checked out!
