The Wild and Scenic Sauk River provides adrenaline filled whitewater boating with amazing views of old growth forests and surrounding snow capped mountains.
The Sauk River is one the most beautiful rivers to boat in Washington with spectacular mountain views, an undeveloped forested river corridor, and continuous intermediate class III whitewater. To top it off its easily completed as a day trip from just about anywhere in the greater Puget Sound area.
The float itself is just over ten miles. Starting from the put-in at White Chuck and finishing in the town of Darrington at the Mill boat launch.
The float starts with some great class III whitewater right out of the gates. At approximately 2 miles into the trip you will reach Jaws which should be scouted if you are unfamiliar with the river.
On this section of the Sauk River there are a handful of nice beaches to pull over and have lunch or take a break. The second half of the float Whitehorse mountain will dominant the view on a clear day.
If you decide to camp there are several national forest service camps along the Mountain Loop Hwy such as Clear Creek Campground and Squire Creek Campground.
If you want to try a local brew after your day on the water check out River Time Brewing in Darrington, WA.
If you are unfamiliar with whitewater boating and still want to give this river a try check out Adventure Cascades in Darrington.
