Easy 6 mile hike to take friends or family visiting from out of town, kids or a perfect hike to stretch the legs on a lazy Sunday.
Starting at the parking lot off of Hantwick Road follow the trail head for 2.5 miles along the East Fork of the Lewis River. The first 1/2 mile of the old logging road is paved, then turning to gravel for the remaining hike. It's a wide trail, so don't be surprised to find cyclists, joggers or horses throughout the journey.
At the 2.5 mile mark you'll come to a paved bridge overlooking the East Fork of the Lewis River. To get an iconic picture of the arched bridge take a left after crossing and follow down to the river bank. This will take to you down to the river where you can see this well known arch bridge and snap a postcard picture to share with others missing out on this adventure.
Once down by the river, follow the trail to the pedestrian crosswalk across Lucia River road to view Yacolt Falls. At the falls there is a steel bridge that crosses the falls for another postcard picture opportunity to share with others. In the winter time the bridge is normally closed. Also be careful of slippery rocks due the spray and mist from the falls hitting the rocks. Remember to always stay on the trail.
After visiting Yacolt Falls, you can either retrace your steps back to the gravel trail for the 2.5 mile walk back to the car or grab a picnic table by the river and enjoy some much needed lunch and water!
