This is a fantastic hike to see views of the Central Cascades, enjoy the wildflowers, or pick the ripe berries during fall.
This trail starts off going through the forest of fir and hemlock for the first mile. Once you reach the top of the first hill, you will get a glimpse of all the views you will have the opportunity to enjoy later on. As you descend, the trees will start to thin out. The trail follows the ridge line until you reach some meadows. Just past the meadows, be on the lookout for a trail that climbs steeply to your left. This trail is unmarked, but very obvious (and may be marked with a cairn). This is your path to Mount Sawyer.
This trail climbs for about 2 miles, taking you through more meadows and offering great views. You will be making your way up the south side of the mountain. As you near the summit, the trail will loop around to the north side, where it can become narrow at times.
Once at the top, enjoy the 360 degree views of the Cascades! To the south is Mt. Daniel, to the west is Mount Baring, north is Glacier Peak, northwest is Mt. Baker, and way to the south is the fabled Mt. Rainier.
Use this vantage point to pick out your next adventure. Enjoy your lunch and head back down to your car so you can get home to plan out your next adventure!
