Splitboard, ski, or snowshoe up to Ann Lake to ride in the bowls coming off of Maple Pass! You will have amazing views of the North Cascades from the top of the pass before you drop in for your runs.
*Note: The mileage and elevation is only to the lake. It is not taking into account the ascent to reach the pass for runs. Maple Pass is about 1200' higher*
Start off at the Rainy Pass Trailhead. Travel south towards Rainy Lake. After about 0.4 miles, you will come across a ravine that contains the creek flowing from Ann Lake. Stay on the north side of the ravine as you follow it all the way until you reach the bowl containing Ann Lake (about 1 mile). Following the ravine allows you to see some hidden waterfalls that typically aren't seen in the summer months.
Make camp on the shores of the frozen lake and use this as base camp for your days of riding.
*Optional: climb the south wall of the bowl to reach the top of Maple Pass. From here you will have access to any ski run you choose!*
When you are ready to pack out, travel northeast until you meet up with the Maple Pass Loop Trail. This will be the easiest way back to Rainy Pass Trailhead. Follow the trail for about 1.25 miles to get to the parking lot.
*Note: The North Cascade Highway is closed during the Winter. The best time to hit this area is right when it opens as the snow is untouched and in the best shape it can be.*
