Description

A scenic snowshoe hike, with impressive views along Kulshan Ridge. Great for wowing visitors.

This strenuous but rewarding hike takes you first to Austin Pass, where there is a great view of Mount Shuksan. Look out for skiers and snowboarders heading the opposite direction as you start out.

The second major push heads further up to Kulshan Ridge, leading first to Artist Point, then Huntoon Point, with beautiful views of Mount Shuksan, the Border Peaks, and Mt. Baker.

The trailhead is located at the Mount Baker Ski Area, in the southeast corner of the parking lot by the upper lodge. Check snow and road conditions ahead of time, as Artist Point is sometimes closed in the winter.

Snowshoe to Huntoon Point Reviews

3/31/17 Seeing Mt. Baker and Mt. Shuksan in the winter as opposed to the summer had a mesmerizing effect. This amazing snowshoe has just enough incline that you have to work for the views, and is popular enough you'll always have a trail to follow, but remains enjoyable as you still feel secluded and dwarfed by the peaks all around you.

This is without a doubt one of the most scenic landscapes in Washington, and even better so when it's covered in snow. You will most certainly have some company, but head up around sunrise or sunset to enjoy a little peace and quiet and soak in all the views. With unobstructed views and wide open areas, snow camping is also a great option for those who want to experience both sunrise and sunset.

For some great snow camping spots or just some solitude on your day trip, travel just Southeast of Huntoon Point for some open areas with great views of both Shuksan and Mount Baker.
