Description

This beautiful state park in West Virginia combines camping with overlooks of the Blackwater Falls canyon and famous waterfalls.
Besides seeing the famous Blackwater Falls (main attraction of the park), there are other just as wonderful sights that are more than worth exploring. Behind the Visitor Center/Lodge, follow the Elakala Trail until you reach Elakala Falls, less than half a mile down the trail. Retrace your steps and drive towards the parking for Blackwater Falls, but pass it and continue to Pendleton Point Overlook. This provides views of the canyon from the opposite side the lodge overlooks. Drive back towards the lodge, pass it and continue towards Lindy Point Overlook, my personal favorite overlook of the park. The trail is about 3/4 of a mile, but is an easy hike that ends up in a walled overlook of the canyon. However, for better pictures, there is a little path right before this area that leads to the rocks on the outside of this area, but be careful doing so.
