Hike to the Nuttallburg Headhouse

From Lansing-Edmond road, turn right onto Beauty Mountain Road. Go for 0.1 miles and the road will appear to split into three roads. The main road goes left, but take the middle road here. After another 0.1 miles you will arrive at a gate with a few parking spaces on the left side. Do not block the gate or the driveway for the house by the trailhead.

The trail follows a gravel road and is steep as it drops just over 400 feet in elevation in 0.7 miles. Along this road you will see large sandstone outcrops and have views of Endless Wall (https://theoutbound.com/west-v...). 

You will first pass the ruins of the electric substation and hoist house, where a pulley system for operating the mine equipment was stored. Next, you'll see the old entrance to the coal mine, which was opened to mine a 3 ft thick coal seam.  

Take time to look around the ruins of the Head House. You can see inside both the top and bottom levels. On the top is the control room and rail tracks that carried coal out of the mine, and on the bottom level is the large gears that helped dump the coal out of the mining carts onto the conveyor belt that carries coal straight down the mountain to the tipple. 

Once finished exploring the Head House, you can either take the 0.6 mile Conveyor Trail (drops 400' in elevation) down to explore the other Nuttallburg Trails (https://theoutbound.com/west-v...), or simply walk the 0.7 miles back up the hill to your car.
