Description

Added by Stephen Catalano

Snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and photography opportunities await in this winter paradise.

From January to April, the forest roads that provide vehicle access to the Dolly Sods Wilderness in West Virginia are closed. If you're up for a cold weather adventure, park your car (in accordance with the signage and without blocking the road) and hike up the Forest Road 75 near Davis, WV, to Bear Rocks Preserve. Come after a recent snowfall and you'll be in for a beautiful sight, so bring a camera! Be advised, on 'bad days' you'll likely encounter high winds and sub zero temperatures, so bring a buddy or two and make smart decisions. There is no vehicle access, no rangers that are patrolling the area, and you'll be on your own up there. On better weather days, folks love to snowshoe and cross country ski in that area-- both highly recommended.

*Park your car on Highway 75 in accordance with the signage and without blocking the road and hike up the Forest Road 75 near Davis*

Stay safe and stay warm! Please be sure to let others know where you're heading before starting your adventure.
