Camp at North Fork Campground
Bayfield, Wisconsin
Description
Added by Kathleen Buenviaje
Camp with an unlimited supply of firewood.
North Fork campground isn't the most sought after campground, but it is a diamond in the rough and a great alternative if Brooklyn Lake Campground and Sugarloaf Campground are full. It is reservable, but they also have an abundance of first come first serve sites available.
At 8,600 ft the campground sits on the banks of the Little Laramie river. There are 60 sites in two separate areas with vault toilets. Campgrounds are large, you definitely get distance between your neighbors. There are piles and pile of dead trees and wood available to burn responsibly all throughout the campground.
The road to this campground closes around late October-November, so plan to visit before then. If you visit around late June, you'll be greeted with greens and wild flowers. Beginning in September you'll catch the fall colors taking over with yellow and orange sprayed all throughout the scenery.
Camping in Medicine Bow National Forest is great, because it leads to endless explorations of trails and adventures. The draw to this area is the lack of tourists and crowded trails. It's also a very popular are for mountain bikers.
