Hike or Bike the NHAL Raven Trails
The Raven Trails are located adjacent to Clear Lake Campground in the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest. Start at the Woodruff Road entrance for access to some of Wisconsin northwood's best Mountain biking trails as well as 4 looped hiking trails. The 1.2mi Nature Yellow Trail is great for a family walk - cross the boardwalks for a close-up look at marshland wildlife. Dogs are not ...
Hike the Fallison Lake Nature Trail
Reachable by car or along the Heart of Vilas paved bike trail, start your trip by filling up your water bottle at the old manual well pump (if you forget there's another at the halfway point!). Turn right to start down the rolling 2.5 mile Red trail. If you're short on time, you can cut off some of the trip using the shorter 2 mile Blue, 1 mile Green and 0.5 mile yellow trail.

Camp at Crystal Lake Campground
An incredibly popular campsite that surrounds Crystal Lake and that offers access to Muskellunge Lakes. The State Park off County Road N, near Sayner, is great for bike enthusiasts and families looking to dip their paddles into the blue waters.
Prime campsites include high, dry ground with level gravel pads that are lined with maples, aspens and birch. The truly spectacular sites connect to the...
Hike to Timm's Hill
Hike to one of the easiest high points in the country. Standing at only 1,951 feet, Wisconsin's Timms Hill isn't going to be the most impressive climb you do, but it is still worth the hike. The entire area is a county park with plenty of amenities. Take the short 1/4 hike to the top of the hill, and climb the observation tower. The tower offers 360 unobstructed views of the surrounding Wiscons...
Hike to Yondota Falls
Outside of Marenisco, MI, take Cty Rd 523 north of town. The trailhead is just north of the bridge over Presque Isle River, hidden away in the trees. We missed it our first pass over the bridge. Once at the trailhead, hike down roughly 0.25 to 0.5 miles to see the waterfalls to your left. There are multiple sets of falls to see along the way.
Hike Grandfather Falls on the Ice Age Trail
About 12 miles north of Merrill on 107, there is easy access parking from either the dam on the north or Camp New Wood County Park to the south. We started at the Falls and hiked south to enjoy the rock formation known throughout the Ice Age Trail. While early June meant a cloud of biting insects, the mood didn’t suffer.
We met a few people fishing off the rocks, some through hikers and a few d...
