About this place

Red cliffs. Crashing waves. Stunning vistas. Clear blue water. The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is home to, in my opinion, Wisconsin's most beautiful natural scenery.

Located at the tip of Wisconsin on Madeline Island, Big Bay State Park is a must see for any Wisconsinite. To get to Madeline Island, you'll need to purchase a round trip ferry ride in Bayfield. The ferry is a quick 20 minute trip across Lake Superior. Once you get onto Madeline Island, head out to Big Bay State Park which is about 10 minutes away. When you enter the park, head toward the camping and then take a right down the road before the campsites. Keep going down the road for about a mile and a half before you get to the second parking lot. You'll see a sign for three trails, so make sure to take the Point Trail. The trail is nearly 2 miles long, but will take you awhile to travel through as you'll be wanting to check out nearly every overlook point. You can climb down several of the less steep cliffs, but be careful! Regardless of what you are willing to attempt, the views are absolutely incredible. I suggest camping at the park for the night so that you can experience the bright skies full of stars.
