Camp at the Gros Ventre Campground

This campground is the closest one in Grand Teton National Park to the town of Jackson, so if you are looking for convenience, this is it! The Gros Ventre (pronounced Grow Vont, NOT Gross Venture) campground offers sites for both RV's and tents and is nestled in a grove of cottonwood trees. All campsites include a picnic table, fire pit, and nearby bathrooms include flush toilets, with cold running water. Shower facilities are located in the surrounding area, but not on site.  Campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Advance reservations are only taken for group sites. 

The campground is right on the Gros Ventre river and while no sites are on the river itself they are just a short walk away. If you are looking for Grand Teton views, the loops to the west will offer your best chance.

The river offers great fly fishing, as well as great views. But alert and aware for moose anytime you are down by the river. A little insider secret is that this campground is probably one of the best places inside Grand Teton National Park to see moose. In the fall months, they even have to close down some loops because there are too many moose. And on more than one occasion I have woken up in the bed of my truck to a bull moose standing over me. That will definitely get your blood running early in the morning. Remember that moose are dangerous and have tempers, so please keep your distance.
