Enjoy this scenic, natural hot spring in John D. Rockefeller Jr. Memorial Parkway.
The well known Huckleberry Hot Springs has become a bit nasty due to overuse and stagnation. Despite this, it remains more popular than the nearby and lesser known polecat hot springs. (I hope posting this doesn't ruin the secret). Polecat is clean and secluded but still has easy access.
Go to Flagg Ranch in the John D Rockefeller Memorial Parkway in between Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park. Flagg Ranch is about 2 miles south of the south entrance of Yellowstone National Park. Follow the signs to grassy lake road, which will be to the right as you enter Flagg ranch. Before the road becomes gravel there is a small parking area and a sign labeled Huckleberry Hot Springs. Hike the trail for about a quarter mile until you get to the creek. Cross the creek and immediately turn left, following the trail that parallels the creek. You will come upon the pools shortly, in about another quarter mile. Crossing the creek may be difficult and dangerous in peak run-off season (spring snowmelt). Be safe and use good judgement.
Polecat hot springs has two pools. The one closer to the river is a more moderate temperature, while the pool just up the hill is quite warm. If you include the chilly polecat creek, there are three temperature options! The pools can fit 3-5 people comfortably, and allow oneself to fully submerge oneself.
You can camp nearby in designated sites for free if you continue along grassy lake road (a well maintained gravel road) But these spots are almost always full. If you continue along the road for 10 miles you will enter the national forrest where dispersed camping is permitted. The drive is exceptionally beautiful and scenic and full of wildlife. The road gets rougher once it enters the national forrest, so be warned. Off road vehicles can follow the road all the way to Ashton, Idaho.
Dawn and dusk are the ideal times to go, and one can watch the sun set or rise, wildlife sighting will be more common, and the temperatures more conducive to soaking. Early morning also offers the least chance of running into others.
I've never been in the winter. Access would be more difficult, but the guarantee of solitude and the opportunity to soak in a nature hot tub surrounded by snow sounds like an opportunity worth a little more effort.
Please don't ruin this spot. Follow leave no trace ethics, avoid damaging the surrounding vegetation and keep the area clean. Don't share with friends who will abuse this spot; it is truly worth preserving.
