Mountain Bike or Four Wheel Drive on the secluded River Road. This road parallels the Snake River in Grand Teton National Park. Take in the abundant wildlife.

This is one of the absolute best things to do in Grand Teton. The road is secluded and teeming with wildlife and amazing views. Most people prefer to mountain bike this, but if you want to drive this road, you DEFINITELY need a car with great 4 wheel drive. It runs from just above the Taggert Lake trailhead in the south to slightly below the Signal Mountain Summit Road in the north and follows the Snake River for the majority of the way.

Immediately after you get on the road from the southern end, you will see several abandoned buildings on your right. This is Struthers Burt's old guest ranch, The Bar BC, which you definitely should take a few minutes to explore. The buildings are very much intact and there are still a few old 1920's cars rusting where they were left. There are NPS signs around with maps pointing to where the dance hall, swimming pool, and more points of interest are. This is very rarely explored and isn't even on the park map, but is definitely worth visiting. Because there are lots of grizzly bears active in the area, this is not the best walking or running road. If biking, be extra cautious.

As the road parallels the Snake River, there are plenty of opportunities to get out and fish rarely accessed spots. However, since this road is significantly higher than the river itself, prepare yourself for a little bit of a trek to reach the water itself.

Mountain Bike Along the Snake in GTNP Reviews

I just called the ranger station to make sure this is open for biking. The ranger told me that this road washed out in a flood and there is no biking.... Anyone else have any luck here?
