Cross-Country Ski around Old Faithful, Yellowstone
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
Description
Added by Brynn Schmidt
Explore Old Faithful, geysers, and thermal features in winter. There are lots of ski trails right from the lodge with few crowds as you can only get here by snow coach in the winter.
While Old Faithful is familiar to many, winter there is an entirely different experience. If you are interested in less crowds, a once in a lifetime experience and an area accessible only by snow coach, this area in winter is for you.
There are ski and snowshoe trails all over the area and you can ski up to and around most of the thermal features. At the lodge, you can also arrange to take short shuttles to other ski trails.
Plan ahead - you have to book both the snow coach (your over snow transportation vehicle) and your lodging so that they work together. Just because you booked the lodging at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge does not mean that your snow coach is available. The snow coach can get somewhat boring, but you stop at great destinations that are not accessible to others in winter, such as Tower Falls and Fountain Paint Pots (if you come from Mammoth).
This experience can be booked from the south, west and north entrances to Yellowstone through the park. You will need to stay at lodging in the entrance town the night before since the coaches leave early in the a.m.
