Adrenaline rush and unique experience. Great work out. Awesome views of the sand dunes and mountains. The tall dunes are about a mile or 30 min hike away from the parking lot.

Snow level is a little lacking this year? No time or money to fly out to Park City or Whistler? Head over to Death Valley, America's second largest National Park and give sand boarding a try while exploring this amazing park. It's a unique and adrenaline filled activity with one of the most beautiful views you can ask for.

Situated 2 miles out of Stovepipe Well's campground, Mesquite Sand Dunes is huge and beautiful. Start off by selecting a dune from the parking lot and head toward it. Most of the tallest dunes requires a hike of about a mile. Bring the smallest snowboard with bindings you have. This will reduce the amount of friction as sand has a lot more friction than snow. Be sure to also wax it! It'll help with reducing friction, allowing you to go faster!

Another option is a skate board without the wheels. Bring a rope and tie it to the board after you've reached the bottom and have the next person pull it up. It'll be much easier to get back up to the top of the mound while saving you energy to do multiple runs.

This is safe and fun for almost all ages. Even if you can't snowboard or have horrible balance, sitting down on the board is just as fun! The best time to visit and do this activity would be during the spring and fall, as the temperature will be perfect. Be sure to bring enough water as you'll be tired coming back up on top of tall sand dune.

The Mesquite Sand Dunes are the ONLY dunes that don't restrict sandboarding in Death Valley

At the end of the your activity, if you're feeling lazy about cooking, head over to The Saloon for some tasty burgers and local beers!

Sandboarding the Mesquite Sand Dunes Reviews

Brought my snowboard out here but it was difficult to find a dune steep enough to board down. Maybe I needed special wax but I couldn't get enough momentum going. Will have to try again with an actual sand board!

I believe they are in Death Valley and not Yosemite.
