Relax in soothing hot springs and take in spectacular views of the Eastern Sierras.  Perfect for sore muscles after a day on the slopes or hiking.

Located a short distance from US 395 near Mammoth/Yosemite Airport, Shepherd Hot Spring provides a great opportunity to relax while taking in spectacular views of the Eastern Sierras and surrounding area.

After a hard day on the slopes or long day on the trail this hot spring provides a comfortable pool to soak with capacity up to 6 people at a time.  The water is piped over from the natural hot spring about 150 feet away.  As the pool is filled be careful to test the temperatures as the water can be well over 100 deg F.  If you are sensitive to hot water, it may be necessary to let the water cool off a bit before working your way into the pool.

Additionally there are some great photo opportunities of the surrounding mountains and hot springs and if you are up for exploration there are several other hot springs in the area.

To get to this hot spring turn NE off US-395 on to Benton Crossing Road and follow for 1.1 miles until you take a slight left on to Whitmore Tubs Rd.  Follow Whitmore Tubs Rd for 2.0 miles.  After to miles turn right on to an unmarked road and the destination is about a half mile away at the end of the road.

Travel to this hot spring can be challenging in the winter if there is snow around.  Don't forget to bring a frosty beverage to enjoy.  Be sure to pick up after yourself and others while in the area to keep these places open for the public to use.

Shepherd Hot Springs Reviews

Nice tub, good views, fits 3 comfortably and more if you're OK getting cozy. Plenty popular, especially on weekends. Please be courteous; don't camp right on top of it, clean up the area, and maybe don't party all night if there are others camping nearby.
