Description

Added by George Bruce Wilson

Scenic views of one the Eastern Sierra's most picturesque lakes. Great fishing with opportunities for browns and rainbows - see the report here. Designated campground and cabins.

Many people come to Convict lake for the fishing. Convict is located only 2 miles off the main highway in the Eastern Sierras. The lake is clear and pristine with beautiful views. There are various ways to fish here; some rent out boats or bring their own and cruise around the lake fishing. Others like to pull up on the south side of the lake and fish from shore or from their float tubes.

This area can get pretty cold in the fall, winter, and early spring season so dress accordingly. You might also want to pack in some food as there is only a small general store near by. The largest markets are south in the town of Bishop or north in Mammoth Lakes. Please remember to leave no trace and pack out what you pack in.

Fishing at Convict Lake Reviews

We’ve been skunked and we’ve slated them, but we’ve always had fun!

I usually float tube here, but have been on a boat as well. When I float tube, I’m less inclined to kick all the way to the inlet (where there’s usually pretty good fishing)... but I’ve always done pretty well along the shoreline & usually am able to catch my limit in my secret spot! 😉 There can be quite a bit of wind on this lake, so just keep that in mind if you’re float tubing or on the SUP (which they now rent in the marina!). FYI—fishing season here & nearby closes 11/15.

Great fishing. You can rent a pontoon boat and drive around the lake. After your done fishing you can take a nice hike around it. I'm not sure about backpacking options but I'm sure there is. Overall a great place.
