Rock Climb Lembert Dome, Yosemite NP

Tuolumne County, California

Description

Added by Brynn Schmidt

This is an awesome beginner-intermediate traditional climbing dome in Tuolumne Meadows with easy access and incredible views. There are multiple routes (most are 2-3 pitches) with a walk-off or rappel descent. You can also hike to the top from the other side of the dome. Incredible views from the top with easy access from parking lot.

Lembert Dome stands out clearly as it is right along the road with a fairly large parking lot, about 1/4 mile past the Toulumne Store. There are multiple routes on this dome and for detail on all climbs, pick up the Tuolumne Free Climbs climbing guide. The area around this dome is gorogeous with views of various peaks, the river below and the meadows of Tuolumne.

Most climbs on Lembert Dome are on the west and northwest side of the dome and are rated between 5.6 and 5.10b. There are several routes on the dome to choose from and most of them require all trad gear. A couple routes have a few spots for sport climbing but they are combined trad routes. Do not attempt any climbs in this area unless you are experienced with traditional gear and multi-pitch climbs. Climbers either take the trail down the east side of the dome after climbing or use double ropes and down climb the descent as shown in one of above photos.

After your climb, be sure to hit the Tuolumne Store about a 1/4 mile down the road for a beer or a meal. The Pacific Crest Trail and John Muir Trail weave through this area and there are a lot of people often hanging out at this store who are walking the trail. There are great basic food options for a meal here and the atmosphere is sweet with a very diverse crowd.
