Perfect Day of Photography at Prince Gallitzin State Park Pennsylvania on Lake Glendale

Do you like to shoot waterscapes? Prince Gallitzin State Park is the place to go. It has over 26 miles of shoreline and great views of the Alleghenies. Stuck inside Prince Gallitzin State Park is Glendale Lake.  My grandfather worked here as a Park Ranger so I got to know this lake really well growing up. I have seen a lot of great foggy mornings fishing here.

Sunrise

So lets plan our day of photography.....I always started the mornings by Beaver Valley or Pickerel Pond. You will get the sun coming up over the mountains from the east. If you are lucky to have fog catch a fisherman as he drives by or if you get those perfect sunrise clouds find a tree for the foreground that has fallen in the water. Below photos are during Autumn on the lake near Pickerel Pond.

Once the sun is up head over by the campground and hike the Poem or Forest trail. This is a great time to capture the sun peaking in between the trees and lighting up the ferns in the summer.

Mid Day

Once the sun is up. This is when I go eat, fish, kayak, or swim at Muskrat Beach. This is about photography so we will grab our black and white film and shot the big puffy clouds over the lake at the Mud Lick Gazebo or head over to the marina. The Marina is a great place to capture the sailboats as they leave to go sailing for the day. Kayaking here is great plus you can check the shore line for your foreground.

Sunset

Lets fast forward now that your belly is full of Hubcaps Pizza, Pirates Cove Ice Cream, or mountain pies you made at your fire. So the golden hour is about to start. Headache Hill area is a great spot to capture the deer coming out to feed. You can stay in your car and they pose for you. You have two choice now before the clouds turn red.....Stay put and drive down to Killbuck boat launch area or go back the marina area. I have seen some great sunsets from both spots. The Marina gives you the opportunity to use the sailboats or the shoreline for foreground.

Night

My favorite time here is when the stars come out. During the summer you can catch the milky way over the water from the Beaver Valley area. You can park your car really close by and can be right beside the water for reflections. I just printed this shot on a 24x36 Metal Print from CG Pro Prints and it looks awesome! If you want to try a metal print use the code BHPRO10 for 10% off your first order. You can also order Glendale Star from my etsy shop BrandonHirtPhoto I hope this brings you a fun in Colorful Cambria County.
