We did a multi day walk through the mountains, going from town to town. Great experience seeing the nature and rural culture of Oaxaca. To get permission to do the unguided tour, you need to make a reservation with the office in Oaxaca city. Very inexpensive and accommodations exist in each town. https://sierranorte.org.mx/#/
