This is my favorite trail in the White Mountains. I've hiked it about a half-dozen times. I learned to fly fish on West Fork of the Black River. The stream is narrow and you have to be very sneaky to catch anything, but the trout are there. You might even get lucky and catch one of the rare native Apache Trout. My hiking partners didn't always fish, but there are plenty of great spots to set up under the trees along the river for a picnic, reading, or napping. Highly recommended.

I lived at the base of Tumamoc Hill for a year, and would walk to the top and back nearly every single evening after work. It was a great way to unwind from a stressful day. Even though it still in an urban area and you are likely to see a lot of other hikers, I always felt removed from the hustle and bustle while climbing the hill. The city seems peaceful from high up. One word of caution - rattlesnakes are a pretty common sight on this hike. After sunset, they sometimes lay on the paved road to absorb the residual heat. Keep an eye out, and if you're doing this hike in the dark just be sure to bring a flashlight.

I'm a huge nerd and love astronomy, so of course I love Kitt Peak. However, I truly believe that everyone can enjoy the experience of visiting this place, even if you've never owned a pocket protector. I've been during the day, and also done the Night Observer program. Both are great, but the Night Observer program was by far my favorite way to experience the facility. As mentioned in the adventure, be sure to bring warm clothes - I was there in the summer when it was around 90 degrees at the base of the mountain, and in the 50s with strong winds at the top.

I did this adventure on a recent business trip to San Diego. My hotel was pretty close to the convention center, so this was convenient. As a bonus, when I got to the top I kept going straight and came to a nice lookout point with great views of the water.

I've done this a few times as a sunrise hike from Lexington. Give yourself about 45 mins-1 hr to climb to the top of Natural Bridge from the parking lot by the gift shop/lodge, then settle into your front row seat to watch the sun come up over the Gorge. Great way to start the day.

Raven Run is a great property. The views of the Kentucky River are beautiful, but be careful on the rocks - it's a long drop. Highly recommend the nature center as well. Great exhibits for kids and adults alike. I especially liked the tactile exhibits where you can handle antlers, bones and other natural objects.
