The Pipiwai Trailhead was an amazing experience and definitely one to do on the Road to Hana. We unfortunately encountered a closure of the "Seven Sacred Pools" area due to flash flooding - it was raining on and off throughout the week we were there. It was a shame because we saw some amazing sights of some well known falls off in the distance. Overall, a great to stop by among the many sights along the Road to Hana!

There are so many hikes to do that you just can't do them all. I just stopped at one and began the hike. I saw 4 waterfalls along the way one of which I had to swim to get to. Make sure you are on the path though because you do not want to wander aimlessly through bamboo for you entire hike (we took a wrong turn and hiked a good while before realizing we were headed nowhere in particular). A good guide book helps. The only downside is that the Road to Hana is very windy and is the only way to the forests.

When you first get on this trail, you see a variety of trees including a Banyan Tree. As you hike farther into the trail, more bamboo trees appear. Off to the sides are some incredible pools that you can sit in to cool off or have a natural waterfall massage. You reach the bamboo forest and it is an immense jungle of only bamboo. You're hiking and unless someone told you what to expect you have no idea when this forest ends. As you are in the bamboo forest, you hear sounds of the bamboo blowing into each other. These bamboo trees are so large that when they bump into each other there is a sound like they are almost crashing to the ground. You finally reach the end of the bamboo forest and see this incredible waterfall. Don't be afraid to pass the signs and adventure to the waterfall. This is a sight that is amazing from far away but even more breathtaking up close.

A truly magical place and that you must do when you're in Maui! Save a half (or full) day to be able to explore the whole area (including the Seven Sacred Pools), take photos, and relax.
