Shoshone Falls, Idaho
Description
Added by Brayden Weeks
For someone who is exploring or passing through Southern Idaho, Shoshone Falls is a must see, as it is one of the biggest waterfalls in the West (even taller than Niagara Falls).
Shoshone Falls is a must see spot in the Southern part of Idaho. It is nicknamed "Niagara of the West," because it is one of the biggest waterfalls in the region (212 feet high, 1,000 feet wide). Not only can you watch the Falls, but you can kayak to the waterfall to create some even more interesting photos.
Best time of the year: The best time to see the Shoshone Falls is early spring. Due to all of the snow melting, it makes the falls the fullest at this time of the year.
Time of day: I would recommend photographing the Falls early morning before the sun gets too high in the sky, or in the evening as the sun is low in the horizon, creating a soft golden glow on the water.
Vantage points: As for vantage points, there are many. The most common one is right near the parking lot, where stairs lead down to a little balcony over looking the majestic waterfall. You can also hike around the park on the trail to find interesting angles.
One of my favorite spots is to walk along the Evil Kenievel Jump Site trail to get a higher perspective of the Falls. I find that hiking this at sunrise is a great time photograph it at this angle.
Other angles can be kayaking to the Falls or even using a drone. (Just make sure you follow all drone rules).
