Drive (a 4w drive vehicle recommended) or hike from Lookout Campground to the old crystal mine. The peak of this mountain is covered in quartz crystals left over from the blast remains of the WWII mine. Bring a pick ax and a bucket.Photos from the Little Bee Borgia blog.

Originally blasted for quartz crystal to use in WWII for two-way radios, Crystal Mine is now a popular weekend destination for local families. You can drive all the way to the mine on bumpy dirt back roads or you can park at Lookout Campground and hike in. The peak is covered in crystals which is lots of fun for kids to dig up with their pail and shovel. Crystals are in a range of color from white to orange and pink/purple hues. If you feel like getting a work out, bring a pick ax to find larger crystals deeper in the mountain. This also offers spectacular views of Dog Valley and the surrounding areas.
