A short hike to a clear forest lake. Great for a morning hike or lunchtime picnic.
Beaver Pond is a small body of water created by a dam that was constructed during the days of iron ore mining in the area. The pond is crystal clear and has a wonderful tree line right on the water. The best time to visit here is early morning in the fall. With the leaves changing color they make an awesome reflection in the water. There is several places here to relax and have lunch or just enjoy the view.
To access the pond, park at the south end of Canopus Lake. There is road side parking. At the point is a trailhead for the Appalachian Trail. Enter at the north side of route 301 (Canopus Lake side) and hike the rocky AT for .5 miles. You will reach a trail junction with the Fahnestock Trail marked with blue discs. The Fahnestock Trail starts here. Follow the Fahnestock Trail for 3/4 mile when the trasil joins the Charcoal Burners Trail. Follow the dual trail for a 1/4 mile where you will reach Beaver Pond. Return the way you came.

Beaver Pond via Appalachian Trail Reviews
This is a beautiful trail and the pond at the end is lovely. BUT it is definitely more than 3/4 of a mile on the Fahnestock trail part. The round trip for us was over 4 miles, rather than the estimated 3.
