Epic hike through amazing jungle that leads to waterfall.

San Ramon Waterfall is on Volcano Maderas on the south end of Ometepe. The trailhead starts off at a Biological reserve in San Ramon where you pay an entrance fee of $3/Person and can park your car. From there you take a long driveway up through a beautiful plantation and end up at a hydro-electric plant that the native people of the island use to capture energy from the river nearby. (If you have a scooter or bike you can ride that up the drive way and start hiking once you get to the hydro plant.) Once past the plant you stay on a small foot path crossing a creek many times through lush dense jungle. howler monkeys, many birds, and an assortment of butterflies will meet your eye. About two hours after entering the reserve you arrive at the large waterfall and can hop in the small pool at the base of it. The San Ramon Waterfall is most beautiful with the most water during rainy season and in dry season it can get down to just a trickle.

Hike to San Ramon Waterfall on Ometepe Island Reviews

Don't give up! The hike is not very long in terms of miles, but keep in mind the humid and hot temperatures. The last miles seemed to take forever, but the waterfall is really gorgeous. If you don't mind walking over some stones, you can actually stand below the waterfall and refresh yourself. I loved it!
