Del Valle Regional Park is a convenient getaway to a local swim-friendly lake. There are also clean, family-friendly campsites.

Looking for a quick summer escape filled with stand up paddling, canoeing, fishing, hiking, and picnics? Look no further than Del Valle Regional Park. Consistently considered one of the best campgrounds in the Bay Area, the centerpiece of Del Valle is a 5-mile long lake that allows swimming, fishing, and other water recreation. It is surrounded by 4,395 acres of beautiful land for hiking, horseback riding, and nature study. Del Valle also is the eastern gateway to the Ohlone Wilderness Trail, 28-miles of scenic backcountry trails (permit required).

There is truly something for everyone here. With amenities like showers, picnic tables, clean bathrooms, BBQ grills, stroller-friendly trails, and on-duty lifeguards, it is also extremely family friendly.

We recommend visiting the eastern shore of the lake. It’s a little less crowded and they rent the kayaks, canoes, boats, and paddle boards there. Also, if you're camping on a weekend or a holiday, expect it to be a little bit louder than normal at night. This is not remote-style camping, so bring a friendly attitude and you'll have an amazing time.

Del Valle Regional Park Reviews

This park is awesome. It has some very easy hikes, along with challenging ones. Very dog friendly. Bring sun cover, about half the trails are not shaded. Please be aware: as of April 2016, there is no swimming or fishing allowed due to some bad stuff in the water (sorry for non-technical description). Call park for more details.

This looks so awesome, thanks for sharing! What's sad is that on the campsite website it says they aren't accepting reservations until after September 2nd due to the extreme drought (they can't provide drinking water/sanitation services). :( I wish it would rainnnnnnnn. http://www.reserveamerica.com/camping/del-valle/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=EB&parkId=110003

Looks like fun, thanks!
