These iconic coastguard cottages (as featured in the film Atonement with Keira Knightly) are somewhat of a secret. Get up close to these amazing coastguard cottages and take in the incredible view of the Seven Sisters whilst you’re there!

After spending most of my life in East Sussex, these rather elusive cottages are highly sought after but fairly tricky to get to. Many people who try to visit these amazing coastguard cottages (that are fabulously framed against the giant white cliffs of the Seven Sisters) get lost in the process! Although most of the Seven Sisters fall within East Dean and Eastbourne, these cottages are actually accessed via Seaford Head.

From Seaford Town Centre and Railways Station, head South East for 1 mile along Church St, South St and then Steyne Rd. Then turn right on Chyngton Rd and stay on this road for about 1 mile. Chyngton Rd will turn into Chyngton Way and then turn right on Chyngton Lane. You could also put Chyngton Lane or Coastguard Cottages, Seaford in google maps. Follow this road (Chyngton Lane) up the narrow hill, turn left and you’ll reach a small car park (on the left). There is also a barn near the car park as well (opposite the small car park).

From the car park, head South East along the dirt trail (you cannot drive along this trail!) for about 15 minutes. You will start to see the cottages once you reach the brow of the hill. Do not attempt to enter the cottages as they are private property! You may take photos and you are free to walk around. There is a perfectly placed bench outside of the cottages for you to enjoy the view as well. This view is even more epic on a sunny day (not pictured) or during sunset. There, now the secret is out…
