Photograph Dunseverick Castle

Records of Dunseverick Castle date back to the 5th century. In the 9th century Viking raiders attacked the remote coastal fortress. Quick research suggests that the castle was intact and in use until the mid-17th century. Today, all that remains are a few tall, skinny corners of the castle gatelodge. The castle ruins themselves are steeped in history and worth photographing in their own right, but the breathtaking backdrop for Dunseverick makes it a must for any photographer who surfaces in Northern Ireland. 

You can photograph the castle from several sides, as the Causeway Cliffs Path winds from one side to the other. A short pathway leads down the cliffs to the coves on either side of the castle, and back up to the actual castle ruins. Options are entirely endless. 

For particularly awesome photos, aim for sunset as the sun sets just behind the castle.

Parking is available near the castle - a nearby parking lot designated for the Causeway Cliff Path, or a roadside pullout also very near the castle.
