Fish at Sunset Pond

There are two ponds in the Draper Wetland Park. To get to them, you drive down Riparian Dr. until you see the parking for the wetlands. From there you walk down the paved path until you see a mulch path cutting off to the right. This is a shortcut to get to the ponds faster. If you don't want to have to worry about taking the shortcut, following the paved path will also get you to the ponds. When you get to the first pond, it is a little smaller and more elongated. This pond holds rainbow trout, carp, catfish, bluegill, pumkinseed, and largemouth bass. To catch the rainbow trout from this pond, I either use sinkers or a bobber with worms or Power Bait. Also, I use a lure. I like using Jake's Lures or Mepps Lures. I find that the lure is generally more successful but both ways work.You could put one pole out with the Power Bait or worm method and also use one pole with a lure. To catch the carp you can use a piece of bread under a bobber. For the catfish use a worm or some other meat. The pumkinseed and bluegill will usually go for a fly that is shaken on the surface. 

     To get to the next pond, you keep following the paved path and cross a bridge. You will see the pond, it is larger and more circle shaped. This pond doesn't have a paved path around it. It is a dirt walkway all the way around. There is a road on the north side of this pond. You are NOT allowed to park on this road you must use the other parking on Riparian Dr. This pond holds carp, catfish, and bluegill. The carp can be caught by casting out bread under a bobber. The catfish will go for worms or meat. I usually find the bluegill just under the dock and they will go for bread or Power Bait on a little hook. 

     Both of these ponds hold lots of wildlife along with fish. During the spring, you will find lots of baby ducks following their mothers around. Also, there are many geese in the larger pond. There are muskrats in the ponds and you may be lucky enough to see the few that live there. I have also seen turtles on the surface of the smaller pond.
