Description

Added by Gustavo Quiros

Hike on of Death Valley's more popular hiking trails with scenic views and close access to many other points of interest. The hike up Golden Canyon alone will give you many little canyons and crevices to explore and if that isn't enough to satisfy you, this trail connects with Gower Gulch and the Badlands Loop.

Golden Canyon is located about 10 minutes south of Furnace Creek in Death Valley NP, on Badwater Road. Entering "Golden Canyon, Death Valley" into your phone or GPS will take you to the Golden Canyon parking area.

The trail starts right off the parking lot and goes for about 1.5 miles to Red Cathedral making it a 3 mile round trip hike (unless you decide to hike to Gower Gulch or the Badlands Loop). This hike will gradually take you uphill the whole way up until you reach Red Cathedral.

There are many little side paths and canyons you can explore on this trail. There is one path in particular close to the very beginning of the Golden Canyon trail, on the left hand side, that is very steep but will reward you with an epic view of Badwater road and the Golden Canyon parking area.

NOTICE -  Bring plenty of water during the summer months as this can become a strenuous hike under extreme heat. Bathrooms are also available in the parking area.
