Description

Added by The Outbound Collective

The Salt Creek Interpretive Trail is a 0.9 mile hike with incredible desert scenery and the opportunity to see a rare, endangered species.

The trail is a loop boardwalk. At the furthest point, there is a sandy footpath that will lead you to a creek and will provide a more secluded experience. Interpretive signs have been placed strategically on the trail, pointing out species of interest. The endangered pupfish is found in this creek. At a whopping 4cm long, they can be hard to spot - but watch for the ripples they create in the shallow creek when they swim. Sunset is a great time to hike this trail, as the changing light is reflected onto the creek.

There is no shade along this trail and parking is limited. Get there early to ensure a spot.

Hike the Salt Creek Interpretive Trail Reviews

The author is right on the pupfish. Pretty cool story on how they survive such a harsh place. Solitude can be found here and on a weekday it is eerily quiet. Stay on the maintained trail as this ecosystem is really fragile.
