Photograph the Amman Citadel at Sunset
Amman, Jordan
Description
Added by Margo Schmiederer
An incredible site with ancient ruins and views of Amman
Go to the Citadel with your camera for a striking view of the city at sunset! The Citadel sits on the highest hill in Amman and overlooks the old city and Roman Theater below. The Citadel houses the Temple of Hercules, a Byzantine church, and the Umayyad palace - all of which look beautiful against the blue sky background as the sun sets. The site is open until about 7pm and costs 2 JOR for entry.
Your ID is likely to be checked, so bring your passport with you (this is generally a good travel tip for most of Jordan landmarks, have ID on you!)
It is easy to get there by foot. Starting at the entrance to the Roman Theater, walk across the street away from the theater and find Salmah Ben Al-Akwaa St. You will follow this all the way up to the entrance. It is somewhat of a steep incline up and should take about 25 minutes to walk. If you go later in the day, the sun will be much less hot for this climb.
The Citadel is quite the site to take in - there is so much history, witnessed in the buildings, and the views of the area are incredible. You will also likely see many Jordanian people hanging out here. Don't miss this in Amman.
