Photograph the Roman Amphitheater in Amman

A beautiful ancient Roman theatre from the 2nd-century

Bring your camera to the Roman Amphitheater located in the eastern part Amman. It is specifically at the foot of Jabal Al-Joufah, on a hill opposite the Amman Citadel. It is free and open to the public and offers wonderful views of the neighboring hill and villages. 

History: A Greek inscription on one of the pillars indicates that this amphitheater was built in honor of Emperor Antonius Pius when Amman was occupied by the Romans. At this time, Amman was known as Philadelphia. 

An important note about traveling in Jordan: If you are a tourist, it is important to be very mindful of the culture that you are in when you visit Jordan. Jordanians are very friendly and loving people, and love Western countries (I was often told that I was more than welcome in Jordan as an American!). Still, Jordan is a country with in-tact and traditional social norms and expectations, so it is important to be mindful of yourself as a traveler! As a woman tourist, it is respectful to be modestly dressed and to cover your head even though not all women in the city or country do this. Showing respect for the culture is greatly appreciated.
