The main trail is used by snowmobiles, ATVs, runners, mountain bikers, and dog walkers. Easy terrain overall, but floods pretty often in the spring and fall. The side trails are more single-track and run along the Salmon Falls River. Be sure to visit North Country Hard Cider at the Salmon Falls Mills!

I used the parking area just of 89 to run there and back. If you plan to run/hike be aware that it's very sandy, downhill on the there (which means uphill on the way back), and you need to be very aware that it's mostly an ATV road so don't wear headphones and be ready to move out the way of jeeps/ATVs.

I hiked this in January when the trail was largely covered in ice/snow. It's a different ballgame up there when it's like this. The visitor center does sell traction, but they seem to just be Yaktrax, not anything with real grip. Invest in a pair of microspikes if you plan to go up there in the snow - and make sure you are comfortable in them before you attempt the chain section. Permits are going to be required after April 1, 2022. Plan accordingly!
