Description
Added by Joshua Dawson
Church's Pond via the Jones-Whites Creek Trail is a 6.5 mile out-and-back hike that ascends 2,000+ feet. The trail is rated as difficult and is not for the beginner but offers a stunning panorama view of the valley below, and a picturesque mountain pond.
For the first 0.6 miles the trail follows a peaceful creek, before upping the steepness as it ascends the mountain sides via multiple switchbacks. At 2.5 miles in, you reach a peak that allows you to see from Reno to Washoe City; a perfectly good place for sane people to enjoy and turn back. However for the less intelligent, and more adventurous, Church's pond is a relatively easier 0.7 miles away. At Church's Pond hikers can relax beside a peaceful, still pond supplied by fresh snow melt. After tending to their blistered heals and pondering their life choices, hikers can enjoy the relatively easier hike back down the 2,114ft trail.
The trail is rated as difficult due to the elevation change and is in its best condition from April to November.

Church's Pond via the Jones-Whites Creek Trail Reviews
Fairly popular trail, plenty of elevation gain to make the pond at the end. Good views of the city from an overlook about 3/4 of the way up. Felt a bit like bushwhacking toward the end but the pond makes for a great lunch/picnic spot before heading back down.
