The birthplace of Little League Baseball and ranked among the top 300 places to live in the U.S. by Money magazine, Williamsport is a gem where the adventure never ends.
If you're like me, the open road and long drives are what you live for. I've resided in Pennsylvania my whole life and this was my first time visiting Williamsport. I was in awe when I came to discover the culture and its scenic surroundings. The city is bordered by the West Branch Susquehanna River and sits in a valley between the Appalachian Mountains and Allegheny Plateau.
Often, I get so caught up in the hiking trails of a specific area and I'll miss all the other things it has to offer. With a rich history marking back to the late 1700's, you can roam this city and feel like you're right back in the times of the American Revolution - something I personally love. Streets lined with victorian homes, old brick buildings and roads, and baseball fields everywhere, it'll make you appreciate being an American.
My favorite part of the trip was visiting the coffee shops. A goal of mine this summer is to travel to various independent coffee shops up and down the east coast. I marked two off the list while in Williamsport. Established in 2010, Alabaster Coffee Roaster & Tea Company is a family owned business with all the feels a coffee shop should possess. From low lighting to tree stump tables, you'll want to relax here all day with its spacious seating area.
Right down the road sits The Sawhorse Cafe, said to be Alabaster's toughest competitor. The plus side to this coffee bar is its hearty breakfast. I ate here twice and got the same thing: a sausage breakfast sandwich - unbelievably good. It's a much smaller seating area than Alabaster, but still accommodates comfortably. The prices are very affordable and the coffee blows Starbucks away.
Williamsport is an extremely laid-back town with good people. When you walk into a restaurant or bar, they'll welcome you with a smile and make you feel right at home. If you're looking to get away to a quiet, rustic town with rich history, amazing scenery, and so much to do, this city is perfect for you.
