Amazing views. Great drive up. Perfect for a sunset. Access to many mountain side trails. Picture Lake. Alpine beauty. Summertime escape.

Note that Artist Point is only accessible by car during the summer - it is closed off from cars as of First Snowfall (end of September) through June.

The parking lot of Artist Point is only about an hour and fifteen minute drive from the city of Bellingham, WA. The beautiful and peaceful road that leads up out of Sumas and into the hills of Mount Baker National Forrest is a must for anyone in the area. It is also extremely easy to find: once you get on Mount Baker HWY stay on it, till it dead ends in the Artist Point parking lot.

The drive itself is worth the time. At 5000 ft above sea level, the 360-degree view at the top gives you perfect pictures of the North Cascades, in both Washington and Canada. Also at Artists Point is world famous Picture Lake, with a perfect view of Mt. Shuksan in the background.

Anyone with an ounce of extra adventure will also be pleased to know about the many trailheads that begin here! Five trails, to be exact: Artist Ridge Trail 669, Chain Lakes Trail 682, Ptarmigan Ridge Trail 682.1, Table Mountain Trail 681, and one climb, Park Glacier Climbing Route. Each hike comes with its own length and challenges but each one is worth the struggle! For more info on each hike visit the Forest Service website.

Explore Artist Point Reviews

We drove up to Artist Point in late September and the views were absolutely incredible (espeically of Shuksan and Baker). You do not need a four wheel drive car to access the area as the roads are paved all the way to the top. There are bathrooms, a huge parking lot and lots of hiking trails entering and leaving the area. All ages and fitness levels welcome, just choose what trails are best for you.

This hike was incredible, will definitely be coming back soon to camp
