There is not many hiking trails on the north end of the island. However, this is a nice trail from the Renaissance Resort to a stone beach. Free parking at the resort which by the way, has a beautiful beach where you can swim and relax after your hike.
The Trumbull Trail starts on the grounds of the Renaissance Resort at the central part of the north coast. There is free parking at the resort. From the parking area walk along the hotel road toward the tennis courts. As you walk up a hill there is an arch bridge leading to the trail head. Once on the trail you are leaving the resort property. A short way in the trail splits. Follow the trail to the right. There is an initial steep hike up. The trail eventually levels out and after a mile begins to descend to the coast. You exit the trail onto a dirt road. Turn right here again and a short way down you will reach the Carambola Tidal Pools and Beach.
Carambola Tide Pools is part of a small crescent shape beach. The beach is covered with small weathered rocks so entry into the water is near impossible without shoes. The tidal pools are hardly that. I was here at low tide and there was only several small pools of water that continually had small waves breaking on them. The highlight at the beach was the sound the water makes rushing through the stones after a wave crashed on the beach.
