Watch Sunrise at Point Udall in St. Croix
Christiansted, U.S. Virgin Islands
Description
Added by Alyssa Teboda
Listen to the waves crash on the beach as you take in the beauty of sunrise over the Caribbean Sea at the easternmost point in the United States. Point Udall features a towering sundial called Millennium Monument and stunning panoramic views of the ocean vistas and reef-laden bays that surround it.
Point Udall is located at the tip of a peninsula on the East End of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. It’s distinguished by a striking stone sundial that was built for the New Year’s celebration in 2000 and has since becoming a gathering place to watch the sunrise each New Year by residents and tourists.
From the monument a rugged trail leads down the rocky hillside to the white sandy beach below. Follow the trail for a secluded view since most people forgo the difficult hike to the beach to relax on the stone wall encompassing the sundial and the road. It’s a tranquil spot to see the sun peek over the horizon and paint the sky beautiful shades of color that reflect off the turquoise waters of the ocean.
